The Magic of a French Press

Imagine a plunger and a built-in filter screen in a cylindrical pot, all coming together in perfect harmony to create your coffee. It's like brewing, pressing, and straining, all in one charming piece of equipment. To ensure your coffee reaches its full potential, pour it immediately after brewing to avoid any bitterness. And the best part? It takes just a quick four minutes to brew this liquid enchantment.

Ingredients for Love

Serves 4

  • Chinny Roast Coffee

Your Brewing Ensemble

  • Your beloved cup

  • A 1-liter French Press

  • A timer to keep track of time

  • A scale for precision

  • An electrical coffee grinder or a hand grinder (only if you have whole beans)

  • A trusty kettle

Words of Wisdom from the Coffee Whisperer

  • Begin with the finest, freshly roasted beans you can find.

  • For light to medium roasted coffee, use water that's just reached the boiling point. The French press will work its cooling magic.

  • If you're brewing a medium-dark roast or beyond, aim for water at around 85°C.

  • When it comes to coffee grind, coarseness is key.

Brewing with a Heart

Brew Time: 4 minutes

Step 1
Start your journey by boiling enough water to fill your French press. You'll need about 640 grams of boiling water to work your magic.

Step 2
While the water dances with anticipation, grind your coffee to a lovely coarseness. Measure out 40g of coffee for a perfect coffee-to-water ratio of 1:16. If you're using a Baratza Encore Burr Coffee Grinder, grind at setting 22.

Step 3
With your French press eagerly waiting, remove the plunger and place the cylindrical pot on your trusty scale. Zero it out. Carefully pour in the coffee grounds, spreading them evenly in the pot. Make sure you reach 40g of coffee. If you fall a bit short, simply grind a tad more coffee to reach the desired amount. Once you have your 40g of coffee in the pot, zero out the scale once more.

Step 4
Let's start the symphony. To bloom the coffee, begin your timer and gently pour 80 grams of boiling water evenly over the coffee grounds within the first 10 seconds. Now, we wait, savoring the aroma for the next 20 seconds.

Step 5
As the timer hits the 30-second mark, pour 560g of water into the cylindrical pot within 20 seconds (reaching the 50-second mark). Now, we wait a bit more, patiently counting 3 minutes and 10 seconds, until we reach the 4-minute mark. Take this time to relish the enticing aroma while your coffee brews to perfection.

Step 6
Gently remove the pot from the scale and place it on your table. Insert the plunger and press the filter down with grace. Remember, don't plunge onto your scale; you wouldn't want any mishaps!

And there you have it, a beautifully brewed cup of French press coffee. Pour it into your cup and serve it with love. Enjoy every sip of this liquid love letter to coffee.
